Turbine and compressor discs of industrial gas turbines in an average and upper sized engine-power class have component weights up to 12 tons and more. Hence, vertical external broaching machines have been tried and tested for this application. Their strokes are limited by 4000 mm. That is why broaching tools often have to be fixed on several broach rows respectively broach holders. For this, fully automatic broach holder changing systems are tried and tested as broaching tool change can be made during production.
